109 candidats se présentent dans les 26 cantons renouvelables. Les électeurs des cantons de [[canton de Saint-Lô-Ouest|Saint-Lô-Ouest]] et de [[canton de Torigni-sur-Vire|Torigni-sur-Vire]] doivent choisir entre 8 candidats. Le [[canton de Périers]] n'a qu'un seul prétendant.

Le scrutin ne modifie qu'à la marge la représentation politique du Conseil général. La Majorité départementale se dit « satisfaite » en restant « stable sur ses bases », tandis que la gauche, qui gagne un siège, s'affiche « déçue » <ref>''Ouest-France'', 28 mars 2011. </ref>.
Les électeurs se sont mollement mobilisés pour ce scrutin : la participation moyenne s'établit à 46,24 % au premier tour et à 46,37 % au second tour. Le plus mauvais élève est le [[canton de Cherbourg-Octeville-Sud-Est]] avec seulement 32,06 % au premier tour et le meilleur élève le [[canton d'Isigny-le-Buat]] avec 72,47 % au second tour.

Élections cantonales de 2011 dans la Manche

Le premier tour a lieu le 20 mars 2011 et le second tour le 27 mars.

Contexte départemental

Assemblée départementale sortante

Avant les élections, le conseil général de la Manche est présidé par Jean-François Le Grand (UMP). Il comprend 52 conseillers généraux issus des 52 cantons que compte le département. 26 d'entre eux sont renouvelables : 17 appartiennent à la Majorité départementale et 9 à la gauche.

Jean-François Le Grand aborde le scrutin « serein » [1]. Chaque camp compte conserver son nombre de sièges : 34 pour la majorité, 15 pour la gauche et 3 indépendants [1].

Candidats

109 candidats se présentent dans les 26 cantons renouvelables. Les électeurs des cantons de Saint-Lô-Ouest et de Torigni-sur-Vire doivent choisir entre 8 candidats. Le canton de Périers n'a qu'un seul prétendant.

Analyse

Le scrutin ne modifie qu'à la marge la représentation politique du Conseil général. La Majorité départementale se dit « satisfaite » en restant « stable sur ses bases », tandis que la gauche, qui gagne un siège, s'affiche « déçue » [2].

Les électeurs se sont mollement mobilisés pour ce scrutin : la participation moyenne s'établit à 46,24 % au premier tour et à 46,37 % au second tour. Le plus mauvais élève est le canton de Cherbourg-Octeville-Sud-Est avec seulement 32,06 % au premier tour et le meilleur élève le canton d'Isigny-le-Buat avec 72,47 % au second tour.

Sept candidats sont élus dès le premier tour, quatre sortants : Bernard Tréhet (DVD, Brécey), Hubert Lenormand (DVD, Périers), Paul Delaunay (DVG, Saint-James), Érick Beaufils (UMP, Saint-Malo-de-la-Lande), et trois novices : Marylène Fillâtre (DVG, Juvigny-le-Tertre), François Davoust (DVG, Le Teilleul) et Francine Fourmentin (PS, Sourdeval) [3].

Au final, 19 conseillers sortants sont réélus et 7 candidats font leur entrée au Conseil général [4]. Les femmes seront 6 sur 52 élus dans la nouvelle assemblée, soit seulement 11,54 %. Elles étaient 4 dans la précédente (7,70 %). Seuls deux conseillers sortants sont battus : Patrick Larivière (DVG) à Pontorson et Albert Bazire (UMP) à Sourdeval.
