Élections cantonales de 1958 dans la Manche

Le premier tour a lieu le dimanche 20 avril 1958 et le second le dimanche 27 avril.

Analyse

Comme attendu, le scrutin marque une grande stabilité : les divers droite conservent la quasi totalité des sièges. ^[1]. Le nouveau Conseil général, renouvelé par moitié, ne voit arriver que cinq nouvelles têtes, sur 24 possibles. Trois de ces nouveaux venus se sont imposés en battant des conseillers sortants : René Schmitt à Cherbourg, qui succède au député Jean Brard (div. droite), Henri Le Cacheux à Montebourg, à la place d'Albert Pèlerin, et Fernand Saoul à Mortain, en remplacement de Henri de Ponthaud. Les deux autres nouveaux prennent la place de conseillers qui ne se représentaient pas : André Tible à Granville, qui succède à Roger Maris, et Auguste Cousin à Saint-Sauveur-le-Vicomte, qui occupera le siège de Joseph de Fontbonne.

Vingt cantons sur 24 ont élu leur représentant dès le premier tour ^[2]. Les quatre scrutins de ballottage ont eu lieu dans les cantons de Cherbourg, Granville, Montebourg et Octeville ^[2].
